In this shoot I sought to challenge myself and experiment with my approach to photography. In these portraits I experimented with artificial light and different color relationships through monochromatic, analogous, and split complementary color schemes. The images feel like the product of a studio shoot even though they were all taken in my attic. The subject bathed in artificial blue light against a backdrop of bokeh combine to create the photos’ celestial quality. Color is another important element and in portraiture can be interpreted as characterizing the subject in some way. Blue evokes a feeling of serenity, security, and loyalty.

Out of the Blue

For this shoot I created a foam board back drop, painted it black, and sealed holographic glitter onto the board. One side has silver glitter to pair with cool colors such as blue, the other side is covered in gold glitter to complement warm colors.
