Lakewood Roots

Lakewood Roots is an experimental short film that explores the familial roots that connect me to my hometown, Lakewood, Ohio. Through the use of archival photos arranged chronologically I show how the landscape of the city has evolved over decades. With family photos, courtesy of my grandparents, I examine the four generations of my family that have called Lakewood home. By superimposing the family photos over the archival images, I draw a connection between the city and my family. This connection is further strengthened through the timelapse of budding roots/sprouts that bookend the video. The audio consists of a phone call with my dad, in which he describes his experience of Lakewood. Through the use of single frame, superimposition, and voice over, I hope to craft a layered reminiscence of this beloved city and the ties that bind me to it.
